How do I turn off voice typing on my phone?

Usually, you can disable voice typing or speech-to-text in keyboard settings. So, whatever the default keyboard you use, you should find the option to disable and tweak Voice Typing or Speech-to-Text in the settings.

Here’s how to disable Voice Typing (Voice-to-text) on your Android:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select System or General Management.
  3. Choose On-Screen Keyboard or open Gboard settings.
  4. Disable Google Voice Typing. If you don’t use Gboard, look for similar keywords like voice input or dictation and disable them. It’s important to disable the voice input method. How to turn off Voice to Text on Android

If you use Gboard, you can also open Settings (cog icon). Once there, tap Voice Typing and disable Use voice typing. Once you disable this option, the microphone icon that was in the Gboard toolbar should disappear.

If you rely on Samsung Keyboard, disable Samsung Voice input in Settings > General Management > Keyboard list and default. That should sort it out. The procedure is fairly similar on other devices and Android skins.

Now, if you want to disable speech/dictation features completely, you can do that by disabling the dedicated app these services are bound to. To do that, navigate to Settings > Apps and look for Speech Services by Google. Open the app and disable it. Furthermore, if you want to disable Google Assistant voice responses, follow the instructions we provided in the dedicated article.

That should do it. Thank you for reading and don’t forget to share your thoughts, questions, or suggestions with us. You can do that in the comments section below.
