How to Use the New Camera Mode Wheel in iOS 26

The Camera app in iOS 26 gets a major redesign focused on simplicity and speed. The most noticeable change is a streamlined mode wheel that, by default, only shows the two most popular options: Photo and Video. This cleaner interface helps reduce clutter so you can capture moments more quickly.

While other modes like Portrait and Panorama are still there, they are now neatly tucked away. Learning how to use the new Camera Mode Wheel is simple and allows you to access all the camera’s features without feeling overwhelmed by options you rarely use.

How to Navigate the New Camera Modes

Switching between different shooting modes is now done with a quick swipe. The interface prioritizes a clean view for your shot.

  1. Open the Camera app. You will see the new, translucent mode wheel directly below the shutter button, showing only Photo and Video.
  2. Swipe left or right on the mode wheel itself. As you swipe, other modes like Portrait, Slo-Mo, Cinematic, and Panorama will appear.
  3. Tap the name of the mode you want to use. The wheel will center on your selection, and the camera will be ready to shoot in that mode.

Finding Other Camera Controls

With the mode wheel simplified, other camera settings have been reorganized into more logical places.

For quick toggles like the Flash and Night Mode, tap the small pill-shaped button located in the top-right corner of the screen.

To access a wider range of settings, including Photographic Styles, Exposure, Filters, and the Timer, swipe up from the bottom of the screen (just above the shutter button). This will reveal a tray of additional controls.

Additional Tips and Customizations

  • Revert the swipe direction. If the new swipe direction for changing modes feels unnatural, you can change it back. Go to Settings > Camera and enable the Classic Mode Switching toggle. This will reverse the gesture to match previous iOS versions.
  • Keep your lens clean. The Camera app now includes a helpful lens smudge detection feature. If your lens is dirty enough to affect photo quality, a small notification will appear on the screen, prompting you to clean it.
