Don’t want iOS 27 yet? iOS 26.7 still gives your iPhone dozens of security fixes

Not everyone wants to install a major iOS update the moment Apple releases it. Some people prefer to give Apple a little more time to iron out early bugs, while others would rather wait and see how the update behaves on other people’s devices first. If that sounds like you, iOS 26.7 gives you a pretty reasonable middle ground.

Apple released iOS 26.7 alongside iOS 27, giving compatible iPhones another update path without requiring users to move straight to the newest version of the operating system. According to Apple’s security releases page, iOS 26.7 is available for iPhone 11 and newer, which means these devices are also capable of running iOS 27.

That makes iOS 26.7 especially useful for anyone who wants to hold off on the bigger upgrade without ignoring updates altogether. Major iOS releases usually come with a much larger set of changes, and some users simply prefer to wait until they have had more time to read about battery life, app compatibility, bugs, and other real-world experiences before installing them.

The main reason to install iOS 26.7 is security. Apple’s security notes for the update list fixes across a wide range of components, including Bluetooth, WebKit, the kernel, ImageIO, Photos, Spotlight, APFS, and the Apple Neural Engine. There are dozens of fixes in total, covering issues ranging from crashes and information disclosure to vulnerabilities that could potentially allow arbitrary code execution.

Apple does not say that any of the vulnerabilities listed for iOS 26.7 are known to have been actively exploited. Still, the sheer number of fixes makes the update worth considering if you plan to remain on iOS 26 for a while longer.

It isn’t purely a security update either. Apple’s iOS 26 release notes also list several smaller additions, including new Live Translation languages in Messages, offline Music Recognition, eight new emoji, and changes to Apple Music.

So if you are not ready to jump to iOS 27 just yet, iOS 26.7 lets you stay on the older software branch while still picking up a large batch of security fixes and a handful of smaller features. You can always move to iOS 27 later, once you are more comfortable making the switch.
