iOS 27 will let you pick between Gemini, Claude, and more to power Apple Intelligence

According to a new report, iOS 27 will let users choose third-party AI models like Gemini and Claude to power Siri, Writing Tools, and other Apple Intelligence features.

Apple is planning a significant expansion of third-party AI support in iOS 27, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Users will be able to choose from models like Google Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude to handle tasks across the operating system, from Writing Tools and Image Playground to Siri itself.

The system works through App Store apps. If Google and Anthropic add support to their respective apps, users can then select those models to power Apple Intelligence features instead of Apple’s own. Test builds internally call this “Extensions.” Gurman describes the broader goal as Apple turning its devices into a “comprehensive AI platform.”

Siri is getting a related tweak too. Each AI model can have its own voice assigned, so responses from Claude would sound different from responses handled by Apple natively. It’s a small detail, but it hints at how seriously Apple is treating the multi-model setup.

Apple has been moving in this direction for a while. ChatGPT came in with iOS 18 as a Siri fallback, and there’s already a separate deal with Google to use Gemini for some built-in Siri and Apple Intelligence features. Extensions would sit on top of all that, giving users genuine choice rather than a single fallback. The feature is coming to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 this fall, with the official reveal expected at WWDC on June 8. Google, meanwhile, has been busy on its own end, with the Gemini app currently getting a major visual overhaul on iOS.
