Many email correspondences are heavily focused on attachments and, among those, images are the most used ones. However, some Gmail users noted that images in emails just won’t load for them. If that’s the case for you and Gmail is not showing images on Android/iOS or the web, make sure to check the steps we listed below.

Why are images not showing in my emails?
1. Gmail not displaying images on Android/iOS
In case Gmail is not displaying images on Android or iOS, there are a few steps you can take to make them appear in your emails. Firstly, we’ll need to enable images in emails and then, if they come from an untrusted source, you might need to allow them on a one-by-one basis.
Here’s what you need to do both on Android and iOS:
- Open Gmail on your phone.
- Tap on the hamburger menu and open Settings.
- Open your account from the list.
- Under the Data usage section, select Images.
- Choose Always show or Always display external images.
In addition, you might want to add certain recipients to your contacts list. That way, if they send emails containing images for you, they won’t be registered as spam.
Another thing you can do is reinstall the app, sign out and sign in with your Google Account, and ensure that the sender sent images in supported formats. In addition, if you need those images, make sure to give the web-based Gmail client a try. Just open Chrome and, from the 3-dot menu, select the Desktop site option. After that, look for Gmail and sign in.
2. Gmail not displaying images on the web
On the other hand, if your Gmail is not showing images on the web, as well, here’s how to enable them and allow images in emails:
- Open Gmail in the web-based client.
- Click Settings (cog icon at the top right corner) and select See all settings.
- Under the Images section, click Always display external images.
- At the bottom, just click Save changes and refresh your Inbox.
After that, images should load without issues. However, if it doesn’t, sign out and sign in with Gmail. Another thing you might want to do is disable the ad-blocker temporarily and consider switching the browser. Some Android/iOS steps mentioned above apply to the web-based client accessed via PC.
That should do it. Thank you for reading. In case you are aware of some alternative steps to fix this problem, be kind to share them with us in the comments section below.
