Chromecast stuck on connecting? Try these solutions

chromecast stuck on connecting

Google Chromecast is one of the most popular TV dongles in the world, even if it’s available in only a handful of regions. Setting up and using the device is quite intuitive and seamless but there are some strange bugs that turn that express setup into a lengthy headache. Some users report that Chromecast is stuck on connecting and they can’t make it to connect and get over that bump no matter what they try. We did some research and compiled a list of 4 applicable solutions. Check them out below.

Why is my Chromecast not connecting anymore?

1. Restart Chromecast and wireless router

Start by restarting your Chromecast and the wireless router. Just unplug the Chromecast and plug it in again. Also, make sure that you’re connecting to your preferred SSID and using the correct password.

If that doesn’t help, you can tweak some router settings and definitely disable VPN/Proxy on the device you use to set up the Chromecast. Be that an Android smartphone, iPhone, or something else.

2. Use the 2.4 GHz wireless band and turn off VPNs/Proxy

The next step is to enable NAT and UPnP and try to stick to the 2.4GHz band if your router offers dual-band functionality. You can access all these settings from a browser, by typing an IP address in the Address bar and login into the Router Management console. Of course, the exact steps can differ so make sure to look up your ISP and the router model to learn more.

In addition, if you run a VPN, proxy, or a system-wide adblocker on the device you use to set up Chromecast, make sure to disable it temporarily. Moreover, disable the mobile data because your phone will disconnect from the Wi-Fi during the setup, and having mobile data enabled is not recommended.

3. Update the Google Home app

This solution goes beyond just updating the Google Home app because some prefer going backward and using an older version by sideloading an APK. Some report that there’s a Google Home bug causing issues with Chromecast and that’s why Chromecast gets stuck on connecting. Especially during the initial setup.

So, you’re left with two choices — to ensure that the app runs the latest version available on the Play Store or to navigate to APK Mirror (or any other similar website you prefer but please be cautious) and download an older version of the app. Just make sure that it’s not too old because it won’t work and you’ll be prompted to update it.

Sideloading the APK shouldn’t be an issue, as long as you allow installation from third-party sources. Just make sure to uninstall the app before installing the APK.

To update Google Home, open the Play Store and search for Google Home. Update the app and check for improvements.

4. Reset the Chromecast

Finally, you can try resetting the Chromecast with the physical reset button. You should press it and keep pressing it until the LED light starts flashing. There are some differences between Chromecast generations in LED colors signal but the procedure is fundamentally the same.

After you reset the Chromecast, open the Google Home app on your phone and try adding Chromecast again. If the problem persists, make sure to report it to Google Support in Google Home > Account pic > Feedback.chromecast stuck on connecting

And, with that said, we can conclude this article. Thank you for reading what was, we hope, an informative article that provided the solution to this problem. Have any suggestions or questions? Leave them in the comments section below.
