1. Google Meet Android app can’t share screen
If the Android app won’t allow you to share the screen, you can try to clear the app data or reinstall the app. Also, it’s quite possible that the service is temporary down, especially since Google decided to merge Google Meet and Google Duo. The whole process is a bit messy, with A/B testing and some uncommon bugs, but it seems that things are getting better. iOS users still need to wait for some time until this functionality becomes available on Meet for iPhone. Unless you use the old Meet in the Gmail app for iOS.
But, let’s move to the troubleshooting steps. First, let’s clear the local data from the Google Meet app. Here’s what you need to do:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Google Meet.
- Tap Storage.
- Clear the data and restart your device.
If that does nothing, you can reinstall the app. Navigate to Google Play Store and look for Google Meet. Once you expand the app from the list of results, tap Uninstall. After a quick restart, download the app again and check if it does work. Don’t forget that you can use the old Meet in Gmail which also offers an option to screen share.
2. Google Meet screen sharing not working on Chrome for PC
On the other hand, if your issues with Google Meet appear on the web-based app in Google Chrome (or any other internet browser), the troubleshooting approach is obviously different. The first thing you should do is clear the data from Google Meet on the web. If that does nothing, disable extensions (adblocker, VPN, and proxy extensions tend to cause the most issues).
If you just need to use Chrome, you can navigate to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\[Default] or [Profile #] on your PC and rename your profile. Make sure to close Chrome beforehand. That will cause Chrome to create a new Profile and new Data folder once you sign in again. Or you can just open your Account from the top and turn off Sync. Finally, you can use the Incognito mode or switch to an alternative browser and try creating a meeting there.
Some say that the problem was of temporary nature and that they were able to make Google Meet share screen after some time. Whatever the reason for this, it’s peculiar how certain Google services work in Microsoft Edge or Firefox while not working in Chrome.
