If you’re using iPhone, there’s a great chance that your go-to music player is iTunes. At least it’s there by default so you’ll probably be using it occasionally. It kind of copies the overall simplicity of the iOS, but some users have had a few dilemmas in regard to playback of their favorite tracks.
Namely, they suddenly got stuck with only one song playing instead of the whole playlist. The next enlisted song just won’t start and they’re forced to hear only that one song for ages. The only way for them to play something else was to manually choose another song. Luckily, this is a simple ”issue” to address, and the how-tos are presented below.
How to resolve ”iTunes repeating one song all the time” on iPhone
Restart music app
The first thing you should do is to restart the music app. Sometimes, due to a bug (users report that is resolved on iOS 10), playlist repeats only one song for no obvious reason. So, what you’ll need to do is to force stop the app and start it again. That way, you should be able to clear the bug at hand and your list should move on instead of one song repeating all day long like a broken record.
- Double-click the Home button.
- Swipe right until you reach the music app.
- Swipe it up to close it.
Additionally, you might want to restart your phone just in case something else is affecting your custom playlist:
- Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button.
- After it appears, use the slider to turn your device Off.
- After the device turns off, use Sleep/Wake button to turn it ON again.
Disable Repeat
One thing that’s easy to overlook but it’s obvious if you think it through, is the Repeat button. As you may know, besides the standard functions in a player (Play, Pause, Rewind), we also have Shuffle (this randomises playlist) and Repeat (repeats one track or a whole playlist). Due to some inconsistencies of the player’s user interface on different iOS iterations, people tend to get lost and forget about the repeat button location.
Follow the instructions below to check have you accidentally enabled repeat for the single track:
- Open iTunes.
- Tap on the current song to extend it on the full-screen.
- Swipe up to reveal the Repeat button.
- If the Repeat button is enabled, tap once to disable it.
That should resolve your problem. Additionally, if you’re still stuck, make sure to update your iOS to the latest version.
