Here’s how to delete a calendar on the iPhone

Apple Calendar featured

iCloud Calendar is one of the most-used apps on iOS. It might look a bit barebone but it does the job well and, unless you specifically need an alternative, it should be good enough for everyone’s needs. However, some users have had a hard time deleting calendars after the system updates. Some things have changed over time in iOS but deleting calendars is not hard in the slightest. You just need to know where to look. Follow the steps below to learn how to delete a calendar on your iPhone.

Why can’t I delete a calendar on my iPhone?

1. Delete Calendar from the Calendars menu

The most simple way to delete a calendar on your iPhone is to navigate to the Calendars menu, select it from the list, and simply delete it. The procedure is a bit different on calendars from accounts that are not your main iCloud account.

Here’s how to simply delete a calendar from the Calendars menu on your iPhone:

  1. Open the Calendar app from Home Screen or App Library.
  2. Tap on the Calendars option at the bottom.
  3. Tap on the Info button next to the calendar you want to remove.
  4. Swipe to the bottom and tap Delete Calendar.
  5. Confirm when prompted.

2. Remove the associated account

If there’s no option to delete a calendar, it’s most likely that the calendar is imported from a third-party account. For example, you can import Google Calendar (via Gmail) into iCloud Calendar but you can’t make some delicate changes to it. So what to do if you want it gone? It’s quite simple: just remove the calendar account in Calendar Settings.

Here’s how to remove a calendar account on your iPhone:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Calendar.
  3. Select Accounts.
  4. Open the account that you use to import the calendar. Now, you can completely delete it or just disable the Calendars toggle. We suggest deleting the account.
  5. Tap Delete Account.
  6. Confirm when prompted.

3. Delete the Calendar subscription

The procedure is similar if you want to remove calendar subscriptions. Users usually get these subscriptions from iCal Share, the largest website with thousands of calendar subscriptions. These include sports events, international religious holidays, celebrity birthdays, etc.

If you want to remove it, just navigate to Calendar > Calendars. Tap on the Info button next to the Subscribed calendar you want to remove. Finally, just tap Unsubscribe at the bottom.

That should do it. If you experience any issues with iCloud Calendar on your iPhone, report the problem to Apple. You can also reinstall the Calendar app and look for improvements. To do so, tap & hold on to the Calendar app shortcut and select Remove and then Delete. Open App Store and download iCloud Calendar again.
