How to enable shutter sound on iPhone 7/7+

One of the leading features of iPhones is astonishing photo quality. So, with the latest additions to the iPhone family, iPhone 7 and 7 +, the world get to know one of the best cameras ever placed on the back of the mobile phone.

However, even though the digitalization renewed the way we took our photos, we all enjoy some good old nostalgic features of analog cameras. One of those is shutter sound. Some users reported that shutter sound is missing after latest updates. It seems that is the case with latest two models.  For that reason, we prepared some of the possible tips for enabling it.

4 easy tips to enable shutter sound on your iPhone 7/ 7+

Tune Up media volume

Previous versions of iPhones had its shutter sound tied with ringing volume. Basically, you tune up ringer volume and the shutter sound is there. However, that changed with mentioned two models. Now the media/music sound and shutter are tied. So, play some music, tune up the volume and the shutter sound should appear.

Disable Live Photo Mode

Another viable workaround is related to Live Photo mode. Namely, on some occasions, this mode and shutter sound won’t work together. Live Photo is a great and innovative feature that lets you record moments before and after you take a photo. However, the shutter is off while it is active. So, our best bet is to try and disable it. You can do that this way:

  1. Enter your built-in camera app.
  2. In the top, you should find sun-like, round icon. That’s Live Photo mode.
  3. If it is yellow, then it is enabled. Tap on it to disable it.
  4. Try out your camera now.

Use 3rd party camera app

If the native camera app isn’t up to the task, you can always use some third party solution. You may lose some of the built-in features but at least the shutter sound will work like a charm. Additionally, you can use your native camera app as a video recorder and take photos via third party alternative.

Reset phone settings

Last resort. But, keep in mind that this is advisable only to those that had a shutter sound in all photo modes. And it suddenly disappeared after an update or what not. Even though it resets your settings, all the data is safe from erasing. The only downside is that you’ll need to reestablish all tweaked settings afterward. You can reset your phone settings by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Select Reset.
  4. Choose Reset All Settings.
