It seems that iOS 16 is widely lauded as a great update but there are definitely some minor issues. Some iPhone users report that apps are not working in Landscape orientation on iOS 16. Although everything worked without issues on iOS 15. If you’re among those users, make sure to check the instructions we provided below.
Why do some apps not rotate on my iPhone?
In most cases, apps won’t rotate because they don’t support the landscape orientation. For example, the two apps that are a sure bet to work are Messages (where you can unsend messages on iOS 16) and Safari. If the app used to work in the landscape orientation but suddenly stopped, you can try restarting your iPhone. It goes without saying that you need to disable the Orientation Lock in Control Center.
If that does nothing, try updating or reinstalling the app. Some apps need to get updated in order to work on a newer iOS version. Especially if the app that’s intended to work in the landscape mode (most games) doesn’t switch to that orientation when you start it. To update apps, navigate to App Store and tap on your Account at the top right corner. You should see the Upcoming Updates section there.
Alternatively, if you run into some glitches related to landscape orientation, check for updates. It seems that the problem started occurring on the iOS 16 Beta but there are reports about orientation issues on the stable release, as well. Make sure that your firmware is up to date by checking for updates in Settings > General > Software Update.
Finally, you can just wait until Apple sorts out this problem. Don’t forget to report it on the Apple iPhone Feedback page. With that said, we can conclude this article. Thank you for reading and feel free to share your questions or suggestions in the comments below.
