Android 10 issues on Pocophone F1 and how to solve them

The long wait is finally over, as Pocophone F1 users have started receiving the Android 10 update (MIUI 11). The new MIUI version brings all the goodies of Android 10 to your Poco F1, like the system-wide dark mode, revamped gestures, and more.

However, as it’s usually the case with most updates, MIUI 11 also causes problems for some users. Luckily, MIUI 11 isn’t as bugs-ridden as some other versions of Android, but users who were affected would certainly want to resolve the issues as soon as possible. Even if it’s just a minor problem.

Apparently, most issues in MIUI 11 for Poco F1 are related to connectivity, so if you’ve encountered a data or WiFi connection problem, stick around to learn more.

Table of contents:

  1. Mobile Data problems
  2. WiFi issues
  3. USB connection not working
  4. Unable to update to MIUI 11
  5. Additional workarounds

1: Mobile Data problems

Mobile data appears to be the biggest issue for users on MIUI 11. People have been reporting the problem across various forums since the update arrived. Reportedly, there’s an internal issue inside the system that disrupts mobile data.

A few users have also suggested that the problem could be attributed to the phone’s hardware. Namely, the Poco F1’s signal antenna cable could be damaged, which would cause the data connection problem.

However, most users quickly dismissed this claim, because calls and messages appear to be working fine. On top of that, if hardware were indeed the problem, the issue would’ve aroused before MIUI 11. But if you’ve encountered data or signal issues in the past, you should take your phone to the repair service, anyway.

Right now, the exact cause, as well as the solution to this problem are still unknown. A few users managed to restore the data connection after flashing another ROM, but there are no other workarounds. So, re-flashing your system appears to be the only thing you can do.

It’s also worth mentioning that most of the reported problems appear on MIUI 11 EU, so flashing another version of MIUI, like Global, or installing a custom ROM could help. If you don’t want to deal with all the bloatware in the Global version, you can easily debloat the whole OS with this tool.

If you’re not comfortable messing with your system on that level, you can only hope for a fixing update. But since we have no official word on this matter yet, we’re not sure if the patch will ever arrive.

2. WiFi issues

Unfortunately, data isn’t the only connectivity problem on MIUI 11 for Pocophone F1. Although reported by fewer users, the WiFi connection seems to be the issue, as well. Here are a few things you can try if facing the Wifi Problem on your Poco F1:

  • Enable Airplane mode and disable it after a minute.
  • Reset APN.
  • Reboot your phone and router.
  • Reset Network Settings.
  • Reset device to factory settings.

3. USB connection not working

One user reported that he’s unable to connect his Poco F1 to the PC upon installing MIUI 11. Although such problems could be hardware-related, the user who reported it specifically stated that his hardware is in check, and that the USB connection issue only occurs in MIUI 11.

Furthermore, standard workarounds like re-installing the USB driver on a PC don’t seem to work in this case. So, if it’s not a hardware problem, and the software workaround is still unknown, you can only wait for the patch.

Interestingly enough, the USB connection seems to work on Ubuntu. That means there’s probably an internal issue inside MIUI 11 that causes a conflict. Nevertheless, will have to wait for Xiaomi to further investigate the issue.

5. Important troubleshooting steps for MIUI 11

It won’t hurt if I also list a few general workarounds that could help with any other problem you encounter. None of this may help, but most won’t hurt.

Enable access to Developer options

  1. Open Settings and then My device.
  2. Select All specs and tap 7 times on the Build number.
  3. Then navigate to Additional Settings > Developer options.

Reset Network settings

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Choose Connection & sharing.
  3. Scroll down and open “Reset WLAN, mobile networks, and Bluetooth“.
  4. Tap Reset settings.

Wipe cache partition

  1. Power off your device.
  2. Press and hold the Power button + Volume Up until the MI welcome screen appears. Let go of the Power button and keep holding the Volume Up button.
  3. Once you get into the Recovery mode, use Volume buttons to get to the Wipe Cache Partition option. Press the Power button to confirm the selection.

Reset device to factory settings

This one might actually hurt, so perform the factory reset only as a last resort and if you know what you’re doing. And don’t forget to backup all your data!

  1. Backup all important data to Google Drive, your PC, or external storage.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Choose My device.
  4. Open Backup & reset.
  5. Choose Erase all data (factory reset).
  6. Tap Erase all data and confirm the selection when prompted.

That’s about it. As you can see, Android 10 (MIUI 11) on the Pocophone F1 isn’t as problem-ridden as it could be, but even a single problem could be enough to annoy users who expect a smooth experience from the new OS version.

My Pocophone lost all color in the screen. It’s all black and white only. I cannot find an option to get the color back.
