Huawei P10 Lite common issues, and how to resolve them

Huawei’s enormous growth is well-justified by the devices they delivered in the last few years. It’s only the question of time before they get to contest first place with Apple or Samsung. And latest flagship ”P” handsets are definitely a step forward in many regards.

Even though P10 Lite isn’t on the same level as P10 and P10 plus flagships, it’s an amazing mid-range handset that rewards users with a slick design, great IPS LCD screen and overall above-average performance. It comes with the latest version of Huawei Android variation, EMUI 5.1, and to date, P10 Lite received mostly positive reviews.

However, after some time, issues started to pile up. Don’t get us wrong, this is is the case with most other devices and the problems we enlisted below aren’t common and widespread. But, if you have any issues with your latest acquisition, make sure to check the list below and look up for a solution.

How to resolve common issues on Huawei P10 Lite

Battery drainage

Huawei is not known for fast battery drainage on previous devices, but, it seems that the latest addition to P lite series is somewhat troubled in that regard. With the 3000 mAh, P10 Lite battery doesn’t lack longevity, at least if you’re not an intensive user. Fast charging is a great improvement over P9 and will let you recharge much faster. However, it seems that the EMUI 5.1 kind of drains more battery than EMUI 5.0 and the more demanding screen is a greater consumer, too.

Some users reported that the battery life is underwhelming, so we prepared some tips for you to improve it. If you’re unsure what to do, the steps below should be informative.

  • Disable power-consuming background apps. You can do that within the Phone Manager > Lock Screen Cleanup.
  • Navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings > Location Mode, and choose Device only if you’re not in need of GPS’s high accuracy at the moment.
  • Navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings > Location > 3-dot Menu > Scan settings, and disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning, respectively.
  • Reset phone in Safe mode and look for changes. If the battery life is much longer, that would imply that some 3rd-party app is hogging on your battery. Most of the time, the problem is resolved by uninstalling lately installed apps.
  1. Turn off your device.
  2. Press and hold the Power button.
  3. Once the Huawei screen appears, release the Power button and press and hold the Volume Down key.
  4. You should see the ‘Safe mode’ notification in the lower-left corner of the screen.
  • Disable Auto brightness and set a preferred brightness manually.

Slow speed and lag

In the hardware department, P10 Lite is probably one of the best-buy models in the mid-range category. It’s fast and reliable as they come. However, the occasional issues with performance aren’t unusual. Some of them reported freezes after unlocking while others have had experienced performance drops while running some demanding games.

Even the manufacturer said that the eMMC memory instead of faster UFS. That’s just like that. Another thing that might affect performance drops is related to overheating which we will address below.

If you’ve experienced something similar, there are some things you can do to resolve the issue.

  • Restart your device. If it won’t react to standard Power Off procedure, you can force shut down by holding the Power button long enough.
  • Wipe cache partition. Follow the instructions below:
  1. Power off your device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Down key and Power Button simultaneously.
  3. When the phone starts, use the Volume Down to navigate through out the menu.
  4. Select Recovery mode with the single press of Power button.
  5. Press the Power button to start Recovery mode. The Android robot with exclamation point should appear.
  6. Hold Power Button and press once Volume Up key. The menu should appear.
  7. Use the volume buttons to scroll to “wipe cache partition” and confirm with a single press of Power Button.
  • Let the phone cool down for a while.
  • Reset device to factory settings.
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Backup & Reset.
  3. Choose Backup Now to save your data to a cloud service. Additionally, you can backup your data to a PC.
  4. After it is done, in the same menu choose Reset Phone.
  5. Tap Erase All and confirm.
  6. The device will reboot and start the process that should last for less than 5 minutes.
  7. This will completely restore every customized setting, so make sure to backup your data.

SIM card issues

Just as the previous iterations in P Lite series, P10 Lite supports either dual-SIM or SIM + SD card variation. Now, it’s not exactly hard to set up preferred cards in the compartment, but there are some things to know. Firstly, only the primary SIM card supports 3G and above technologies. Second is exclusively bound to 2G. So, if you’ve experienced connection losses or a network coverage error, make sure to check which card you use.

In addition, you should double check is everything set as intended before the suspicion of hardware malfunction arises. In addition, you can restart your device and look for changes. After that, you shouldn’t have any problems with SIM card.

Bluetooth issue

Bluetooth issues were not uncommon for Huawei handsets before, and they are still present for some users of P10 Lite. Some of them reported connectivity issues while trying to pair their phone with the car media board or a wireless headset. For some, the connection is unstable and crashing frequently, while others weren’t able to connect in the first place. Firstly, you must make sure that the P10 Lite is the culprit for the failed pairing. Check connection with multiple devices to make sure that the phone is the problem.

If that’s the case, follow the instructions below to resolve the problem at hand:

  • Make sure that the Airplane mode is disabled.
  • Restart your device.
  • Clear pairing and reconnect again.
  • Try disabling Wi-Fi and Mobile Data while using Bluetooth.

If the problem is still there, you should contact your vendor or responsible carrier since the problem is certainly hardware-related.

Fingerprint scanner issues

The fingerprint scanner is more than a useful feature on flagship devices. But, lately, even the mid-range devices are packing reader with a variety of nifty uses. And Huawei is one of the first large manufacturers that started implementing fingerprint reader on the majority of its devices. The scanner on Huawei P10 Lite is just as fast and well-placed like on P9. But, there’s still a problem or two regarding its occasional erratic behavior.

There are some workarounds you can apply before concurring that the hardware is the problem.

  • Clean your fingerprint scanner. Use a wet cloth to clean the fingerprint scanner of dirt.
  • Restart your device.
  • Disable fingerprint gestures. Open Settings > Fingerprint ID, and disable all gestures except the standard unlock feature.
  • Perform a factory reset:
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Backup & Reset.
  3. Choose Backup Now to save your data to a cloud service. Additionally, you can backup your data to a PC.
  4. After it is done, in the same menu choose Reset Phone.
  5. Tap Erase All and confirm.
  6. The device will reboot and start the process that should last for less than 5 minutes.
  7. This will completely restore every customized setting, so make sure to backup your data.

At the end, if the problem is persistent, contact your vendor or carrier and report the problem.

Volume issues

Certain users reported issues with the sound volume of certain apps notifications and many other aspects, with the exclusion of ringer sound that works as intended. Namely, some of them reported too loud or quiet notifications and other multimedia features. And even though they tried to regulate or even mute the sound, it still remained the same.

For that purpose, we advise you to wait for the future update which should resolve the sound bug. Meanwhile, you can use the ”Do not disturb” mode to disable certain sounds. In addition, try some of these workarounds:

  • Restart your device.
  • Boot in safe mode.
  1. Turn off your device.
  2. Press and hold the Power button.
  3. Once the Huawei screen appears, release the Power button and press and hold the Volume Down key.

  • Restore factory settings:
  1. Open Settings.

  4. After it is done, in the same menu choose Reset Phone.
  5. Tap Erase All and confirm.
  6. The device will reboot and start the process that should last for less than 5 minutes.
  7. This will completely restore every customized setting, so make sure to backup your data.

Overheating issues

Another problem that emerged with the introduction of massive hardware improvements is the overheating. And most of the modern smartphones will eventually get hot, but some of them are more prone to it than others. Huawei P10 Lite, for example, is prone to overheating. Especially in the upper back part. Don’t get us wrong, this occurrence requires certain circumstances, like intensive gaming or exposure to the sun for the extended period, or use during charging.

Because of that, make sure to keep your phone far from the heat sources and leave it be while fast charging. In addition, don’t use alternative, commercial chargers instead of the one OEM provided you with.

Moreover, if the device overheating occurs during the idle state or standard use, make sure to take it for repair or ask for a replacement.

Wi-Fi and Mobile Data issues

 

Besides the Bluetooth issue, there are additional problems that are also related to connectivity. Namely, some users reported poor Wi-Fi signal or constant disconnection while using P10 Lite. In addition, others are experiencing poor connection while using Mobile data. There are so many factors for this occurrence, and many of those are not exclusively phone-related.

We enlisted some of the probable solutions for the problem and you can find them just below.

Mobile Data troubleshooting:

  • Switch Network type. Settings>More>Cellular Networks>Preffered Network type. Select LTE and save settings.
  • Turn Airplane mode ON and then OFF.
  • Reset APN settings. Go to Settings > More > Cellular networks > Access Point Names > Tap Menu > Reset to default.
  • Reset Network Settings. Navigate to Settings > Backup & reset > Network settings reset>Reset Settings.
  • Remove SIM card and put it back again.

For Wi-Fi issue try these solutions:

  • Reset your router.
  • Disable Bluetooth.
  • Restart your phone.
  • Forget network and re-establish a Wi-FI connection.
  • Use 2.4 GHz band instead of 5 GHz. It lacks range, but it’s a more stable option.
  • Wipe cache partition within Recovery settings.
  • Reset phone to factory settings.

After that, your connectivity issues should be long gone. In contrary, if those steps failed to resolve the issue at hand, make sure to report the problem to service or to manufacturer support itself.
